Today we will study the のです んです casual ending form. We will use an excerpt from Kiss and Cry to try and learn Japanese Together.
I do not remember anything
umm… Why am I in a Hospital?
Tatsu Can you Say you and your parents name and the sport you play?
何だ その質問。。。 龍稀 16歳。。。
What a question like that Tatsuki 16 years old
母 香苗 39歳 父弘敏 46歳
My mother Kanae is 39, My Father Hirotoshi is 46 years old
As for a Particular Sport
Hmm….When I was little I was in a Soccer Club(Football)
You’re not 16 years old You are 17
What? I’m 16 years old….
君は一年間 ずーっと 眠ってたんだ!
You have been in a coma for 1 year!
何も- Anything we brushed on this in an earlier study session with a negative ending it would be nothing. 何もない
思い出せ/Omoidase means to remember but with the ending ねne we would assume it means I do not remember anything right but this ねne with the small えe is a colloquial form of naiない.
あの。。。何で俺病気にいるんですか nande byouin ni irundeska
This is a more natural why of asking a question。We know いる Means To Be/To exist for animate objects. The んですか Form is seeking an explanation to the question
You can also use のですBut that form is more for writing than casual speech. They have the same meaning.
君は一年間 ずーっと 眠ってたんだ!
We look at the last panel and it is revealed that the reason he is in the hospital is because he has been in a Coma for a year.
ずーっと 眠ってたんだ! Zutto nemuttetanda
ずっと Means to be in a continuance state of something , the state of sleep for over 1 year straight a Coma.
The てた hmmm.. we studied together て as a continuation, linking multiple actions or ideas. た the past affirmative
so here we see てた together If you remember we learned that teiru
is an action that is continuous ongoing so conjugation of ているteiru is ていた てた Must have the same meaning as ていた。
The ねむってたんだ Is confirmation answering his question、He is 17 now and in the hospital
Because he has been in a coma for 1 years time.
